Now that spring is here, everyone is taking out their summer apparel. But many are not realizing that it’s time to toss some of the old stuff. Ladies, if your shorts are tighter than your underwear that’s probably a problem. It’s understandable that short shorts are light weight and great for summer weather, but not everyone wants to see your “goods”. It is definitely inappropriate for someone to be in a family-friendly facility with butt cheeks showing from their shorts. If you do decide to wear them, just choose appropriate places. Everything is done with moderation.

Ladies, are you ready for spring? The picture above contains all the essentials one may need during the spring season in Michigan! As we all know Michigan weather is never predictable, being the reason for the black leather boots. Having this style of boots can provide two great options: one, it can make any outfit edgier. Maybe you want to wear a sundress but you’re afraid you may look too dressed up, throw on your boots and you’ll be dressed for any occasion. Two, leather boots are becoming popping statements in outfits. Maybe all you want to wear is shorts and a tank, through on your boots and you’ll look like you up a little more effort into your outfit. The next thing that every woman should have is a bright colored blazer. This blazer will create contrast and move the eyes to this popping piece.

During our college career we are given guides to follow during interviews. How to answer questions correctly, arrive on time and dress wear. Most business professionals suggest business casual or something that fits the culture of the facility where you are being interviewed. This past April I had the pleasure in interviewing various students in becoming a member of an elite organization on campus. As interviewers we were instructed to dress nicely, no sweatpants or hoodies, no ripped jeans and most importantly no “club wear”. But where did we go wrong… Not suggesting what to wear to applicants. Some interviewees, more specifically women, wore skirts that were more suitable for nights at the Wayside. When they sat down their skirts rose to the point where they had place their hands on their laps to reframe from showing the “goods”. It not only made me feel uncomfortable, but it also made the male even more uncomfortable. Just remember, if you have to keep re-adjusting that probably means you’re uncomfortable. So just change!

Sweatpants During A Presentation

In the IPR program at CMU, as students we are taught several aspects of the business world. Such as work ethic, presentation and people skills. In one of my core courses I took this semester, we had to create a PR campaign for a real life client. Not only did we have to come up with a campaign, we had to present our ideas to our client in person. These presentations had to be 25-30minutes long, showcasing all of our work.
I was surprised that one member of a group was dressed in a sweatsuit. Yes, sweatpants and sweatshirt. When this individual stood up to present with his group, the students began to whisper. I personally was confused and thought for some reason it was going to be tied into their presentation. But was I wrong. In fact, I found out that the individual was not even aware that they were presenting their campaign that day. This person was not only an embarrassment to himself, but to his group members. But they do say, dress to impress because you never know who you may run into.

Today I saw the most awful thing of my life. Rather than wearing opaque leggings with a nice blouse, this girl was wearing transparent leggings - if I should even call them that. You could tell exactly what type of underwear she was wearing and everything. It was as though she got dressed in the dark. Don’t most people look in the mirror before leaving there house, obviously not this girl. At to top it all off, the “leggings” had holes in them. Rather than wearing distressed leggings, she appeared as though she was in distress. I wanted to snap a picture, but I couldn’t believe my eyes. Everyone she walked pass looked at her in aww, probably wondering the same thing as me. Did you get dresses in the dark?

Never Have I Ever…
Never have I ever seen a male wear UGG boots. Even though these particular boots do have some winter footwear necessities, I would never think I would see a man wear them. Walking to my JRN 556 course in Moore Hall I was shocked to see this man have on a pair of camel UGG’s. Not the traditional heavy-duty Timberlands, Ralph Lauren snow boots or the typical snow boots from Wal-Mart. I not only took a double take, but I also walked faster to verify what I was seeing and additionally to take a picture. This might seem like a hypocrite, but I am totally for equality. But something’s will take awhile. In this case, it will definitely take awhile for me to accept men wearing UGG boots.

Winter Time Cold…
Michigan winters are like no others, they’re unpredictable and long. But it is up to use as people, as humans to dress with the weather. If that means to look at the weather channel before dressing every morning we’ll just have to make that extra step. But don’t be that person rushing out your apartment with no clothes on. Don’t be that person that runs out of pants because you’re doing laundry. Or you might end up looking like this guy.
